Physical Chiawana hands Eisenhower its first loss

YAKIMA, Wash. — Priority No. 1 for Eisenhower’s football team this week was not letting Jordan Downing build the kind of relentless momentum that tore through the Cadets a year ago.

Problem is, like most Friday nights, the Chiawana running back showed up at Zaepfel Stadium already in full stride.

Behind a physical and fundamentally sound offensive line, the CBBN 4A’s reigning player of the year pounded away for 194 yards on 34 carries and scored three touchdowns in a 42-13 victory on opening night of league play.

The Riverhawks, ranked fifth by the Seattle Times and hoping for a second straight unbeaten run through the league, led 28-0 in the third quarter before Denzel Jones hauled in two scoring passes from Kolney Cassel to make a game of it at 28-13 with plenty of time left.
